Kiereini memorial: Mama Ngina, Njonjo, S.K. Macharia eulogise city tycoon

A memorial service was held for the late Jeremiah Kiereini on Tuesday at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.

The city tycoon and former Head of Civil Service died on May 14, 2019 and was cremated at a private ceremony two days later.

On Tuesday, government officials and top business leaders lauded Kiereini as a emulatable role model.

Attorney General Kihara Kariuki who read a eulogy on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta said:

“To the young Mr. Kiereini is a good role model worth emulating in the management of public & private sectors, the companies he oversaw are living examples in our country…”

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi also read a eulogy on behalf of his father, former President Daniel Moi.

Other notable dignitaries at the memorial were Mama Ngina Kenyatta, former Attorney Generals Charles Njonjo and Githu Muigai, Royal Media Services Chairman Dr. S.K. Macharia and the company’s Director of Radio and Technical Services Fred Afune.

Mary Njonjo Ngini read a eulogy on behalf of her father, Sir Charles Njonjo.

Mumbi Mugo also read a eulogy on behalf of her mother Micere Mugo who is a distinguished writer, scholar and professor of literature at Syracuse.

The late Kiereni was known for his leadership that spanned across top companies in Kenya including CMC Holdings, Unga Limited, CFC Stanbic and most memorably as Chairman of the East Africa Breweries Limited.

His 24-year stint at EABL saw one of the company’s products tagged ‘Kiereini waters’.

Five years ago, Kiereini launched his Autobiography titled A Daunting Journey.
