Kikuyu elders teach youth on good morals

More than 300 male youth from Gema communities on Tuesday, March 7 held a consultative meeting with elders aimed at moulding them to be responsible members of the society.

The elders from Ol-Ng’arua division in Laikipia County offered the youth lessons on the Kikuyu customs and traditions that involved sheep slaughtering.

Led by Chairman, Harun Muraya, the association was educating the youth on drugs and substance abuse and how to strain themselves from becoming victims of politicians’ woes.

Muraya asked the young generation to desist from being used by politicians campaigning ahead of August 8 elections to cause violence.

At the same time, the elders asked the government to consider compensating farmers whose fields were destroyed by stray wildlife in the region as they had incurred huge losses.

The chairman of the association mentioned Kuki Gallman ranch, neighboring private farm, that harbors some of the wildlife that has attacked crops in farms in the past.

He urged the owner of the ranch to properly fence his property or else ask the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to help in taking care of the animals.
