Kilifi MCAs in Heated Exchange Over Impeachment Motion

Trouble started after the Deputy Speaker Teddy Mwambire announced that the motion could not be tabled in the assembly as it had not gone through the laid down procedures.

Mr. Mwambire claimed that the bill ought to go throught the house business committee which sits on Wednesday before being included in the assembly's proceedings.

The motion, which was to be presented by Ganze MCA Japheth Nzaro and seconded by leader of majority Boniface Mwingo, is said to have had the backing of majority of ward representatives.

Angered by the deputy speaker’s rejection of the motion, some of the members walked out of the assembly in protest accusing him of being compromised by the County Secretary.

This is none of your business

Some members attempted to snatch the court of arms bringing leading to a bitter exchange.

Drama continued outside the chambers after some members were barred from re-entering the premises to retrieve a list of those supporting the motion.

The MCAs confronted the sergeant at arms, banging the assembly door as they tried to force their way in. Another faction supporting the sergeant at arms came to his defence leading to a physical exchange.

Kilifi County Assembly clerk Mkare Jeffa together with Malindi town manager Daniel Chome and several county askaris tried to calm the situation but were heckled and evicted from the hall.

The MCAs were heard telling them to keep off county assembly affairs as it was “none of their business.”

“We do not need you here. This is a county assembly matter and only we can resolve it,” one MCA was heard saying.

Though the motion failed, some members vowed to push on to ensure the impeachment succeeds.
