Kilimani chief charged with forgery

Kilimani Location Chief Patrick Adira, who was controversially arrested last week, was on Monday arraigned in court and charged with forgery.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, Mr. Adira was accused of forging a business permit worth Ksh.61,000 for a Nairobi-based food joint, Meriada Gardens Restaurant, on March 16, 2018.

He denied the charges and was released on two surety bonds of Ksh.200,000 each — a fellow chief and one of his relatives.

The chief was arraigned at the Milimani law courts on a warrant of arrest after he was absent on March 26, 2018 when his case came up for mentioning.

His advocate, Betty Rashid, told the court that Mr. Adira came to court late on that particular day and found the court had adjourned.

Adira, through his lawyer, told the court that he was investigating the validity of the business permit when he was arrested for being in possession of the document.

Adira was arrested on Friday, April 6 barely a day after he appeared on Citizen TV narrating the plight of his poor working environment.

Nairobi County Commissioner Amos Mariba told Citizen TV that Mr. Adira’s arrest had nothing to do with his appearance on national television.

Sources, however, disclosed to Citizen Digital that the county commissioner called the chief a day after he appeared on TV and reprimanded him for “embarrassing” the government by publicly airing his grievances.

The case will be mentioned on April 23,2018.
