Eight killed, 12 others injured in grisly Makueni crash

Eight people were killed and 12 others injured Thursday morning when a 45-seater matatu collided head-on with a lorry on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Confirming the early morning accident, Kilungu sub-County Police Boss Zacharias Bitok said the injured were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

“Those who lost their lives are four men and four women. Their bodies have been taken to the Machakos Level 5 Hospital,” Zacharias Bitok.

The matatu belonging to Jasho Company was headed to Nairobi from Mtito Andei when it collided with an oncoming lorry at DC area between Malili and Salama towns in Mukaa Sub-County, Makueni.

According to eyewitnesses, the matatu was overtaking another vehicle when the accident occurred.
