Killer Driver Released On Bail

The driver was released on a two million shillings bond or a cash bail of one million shillings.

The driver, identified as Edward Onchweri, is facing 11 charges including nine murders, reckless driving and for driving without a valid licence.

The case will now be heard and determined on April 22nd, 2015.

Onchweri had before Kisii resident Magistrate John Njoroge on Monday denied the charges and was detained until Friday when the court ruled on his bail application.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) had earlier summoned the owners of the matatu which belongs to the Kisii based Ammotak Sacco.

NTSA Director General Francis Mejja warned that the Sacco risks losing their license if the matatu crew is found guilty of tampering with its speed governor.
