Killer touts on the run after pushing woman out of moving bus

A woman died on Wednesday after she was reportedly pushed out of a moving bus on Thika Road by rogue matatu touts in unclear circumstances.

The woman, only identified as Doreen, was allegedly pushed out of a Githurai bus – KCC 021 A – near Safari Park Hotel on Wednesday evening.

According to a Twitter user named Peter Pekat (@Pekat2013), the woman died while he was rushing her to Neema Hospital.

Pekat said all the conductors of the matatu from which Doreen was pushed had fled but that he, however, had recorded a statement on the incident at Kasarani Police Station. He also captured the licence plates of the bus.

The incident has drawn outrage among Kenyans online who are demanding for action against the culprits from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) as well as the National Police Service (NPS.)

A tweet by NTSA on Thursday morning assured the public that the matatu crew would be apprehended and brought to book.

“Case where a Passenger was pushed from a moving PSV Bus along Thika RD who later succumbed to her injuries has been brought to our attention by @Pekat2013. We are working closely with @NPSOfficial_KE to ensure the PSV crew are apprehended,” read the tweet.

NPS, other other hand, confirmed that the matatu was already at Kasarani Police Station awaiting inspection as investigations into the incident continue.

“Kindly note that this unfortunate incident is currently being handled by our officers at Kasarani Police station. The matatu is also in Kasarani awaiting Inspection and other procedures as per the law. Thank you,” read the tweet from NPS.
