Kim Jong Yang elected as President of Interpol

Kim Jong Yang from the republic of Korea has been elected the President of Interpol for a two-year term.

Kim who had been serving on acting capacity was elected during the body’s 87th general assembly meeting in Dubai.

“Our world is now facing unprecedented changes which present huge challenges to public security and safety.To overcome them we need a clear vision: We need to build a bridge to the future,” Interpol quoted Kim on Twitter.

Kim will replace Meng Hongwei who was also China’s vice minister of public security.

Hongwei went missing while on a trip to China in September and it later emerged that he had been detained following corrupt allegations.

Other members who also got elected include; Nestor R.Roncaglia of Argentina elected as the Vice president for the Americas and will be serving for a 3-year term, Destino Pedro of Angola was also elected as the Delegate for Africa and will also be serving for a period of 3 years.
