Kimaiyo Announces New Rules On Motorcycles

According to Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo, motorcycles will no longer operate beyond 6PM once the regulations come to effect

'The motorcycles will only operate between 6am to 6pm' Kimaiyo said.

Kimaiyo said that the new rules being developed will clarify which parts of the country the law will apply on operation hours.

“The rules are currently being developed by the parent ministry and immediately they are gazetted, we shall enforce them to the letter,” Kimaiyo said.

Meanwhile, the police boss has denied reports that he will not arrest the Permanent Secretary for Interior Mutea Iringo as ordered by the court.

Kimaiyo had reportedly said it would be embarrasing for the government for him to arrest Iringo.

“No one is indispensable. The law applies to all in our country equally, and it'll be followed accordingly,” he said.

Kimaiyo disowned the statement saying it did not reflect his views and that of his office.

High Court Judge Justice George Odunga had on Monday directed Kimaiyo to arrest and present Iringo before him to explain why he should not face contempt charges.

Iringo was to explain why his ministry had failed to pay Sh31.6 million awarded to Tanzanian national James Koroso for false imprisonment and torture.

Koroso had won a case in which he is expected to be granted the said amount of money by the government.

The warrant is the second Iringo has received this month and the fourth that is currently pending, for various offences.

Just this month, Judge Odunga ordered Iringo arrested after failing to honour orders in 2011, which directed him, as the accounting officer in the Ministry of Internal Security, to pay money to a businessman, Peter Kamau Mwangi.

The warrant of arrest was issued and the OCPD Central Police Station Patrick Oduma ordered to apprehend Iringo and present him in court.
