Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa arrested for assaulting contractor

Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa was early Monday morning arrested for allegedly beating up a local contractor-cum-musician.

Barasa was arrested in his Kimilili home after contractor Steve Kay obtained a P3 form, accusing the legislator of causing him grievous bodily harm.

Barasa on July 30, 2021 arrived at a school in Kamukuywa ward to open classes built by the National Government Constituency Development Fund, only to discover that the contractor had locked them.

Stephen Masinde, popularly known as Steve Kay, and his colleague Ronald Graham Wafula, who had set up five classes at Baptist Lurare Primary School at a cost of Ksh.3.4 million, asked the MP to first clear their pay with them before opening the classes.

The two contractors said that their efforts to have Mr Barasa pay them had been futile as he has reportedly been dodging them.

The MP, in a now viral video, is seen arguing with Steve Kay before slapping him across the face.

The musician-cum-contractor then reported the matter to the Kimilili Police Station.
