Kindiki elected Senate Deputy Speaker

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kindiki Kithure has been elected  Senate Deputy Speaker with 38 votes after thrashing his Narok counter part Ledama Ole Kina who got 17 votes after the second round of voting.

Jubilee’s Senator Kindiki won in the first round vote with 38 votes, falling short of the 45 needed to clinch the seat.

The rerun produces similar results after which Senator Kindiki was declared the winner with a simple majority and then sworn in.

Even though NASA lawmakers threatened to boycott House proceedings, National Super Alliance co-principal, Moses Wetangula participated in the election.

Senator Kindiki will deputize former Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka who was elected over two weeks ago after beating former Speaker Ekwee Ethuro, Farah Maalim and Paul Ribathi. Speaker Lusaka clinched the seat having garnered 42 votes against Maalim’s 25 propelled by Jubilee Party’s dominance in the Senate.

The new Senate Speaker Lusaka promised to enact more compliant Bills that will guard devolution, noting that the Senate will strive to work with the national government to ensure development in the country.
