Kiraithe out! Cyrus Oguna appointed Government Spokesman

Retired Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna is the new Government Spokesman.

A statement from ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru dated May 7, 2019 said Oguna replaces Eric Kiraithe with immediate effect.

“In line with directions from the Executive office of the President through the Head of Public Service, the office of the Government Spokesman shall be domiciled at the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology,” CS Mucheru said.

“He will also have content oversight role over the two government news gathering and dissemination channels; Kenya News Agency and MyGov,” the statement adds.

Rtd. Col. Oguna was formerly the spokesman for the Kenya Defence Forces.

He is renowned for his tough and articulate statements particularly when the KDF entered Somalia in 2011, an entry that was dubbed Operation Linda Nchi.

According to local media, he faded from the limelight when KDF and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) joined forces.

His predecessor Kiraithe, previously served as the Kenya Police spokesman and Chief of Security at the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

It however remains unclear where Kiraithe, who has served as Government spokesman since March 2016, will be posted to.
