Kiraitu declares interest in Meru County gubernatorial seat

Meru County Senator Kiraitu Murungi has made public his intention to vie for the Meru County gubernatorial seat.

Speaking at a public rally at Maua Stadium, Kiraitu also backed Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi to take over as the Senator of Meru in the coming General Election.

The two declared their partnership in a meeting attended by 30 MCAs and all Meru County MPs apart from Mwiti Irea (Imenti Central) and David Karithi (Tigania West).

Women Rep Florence Kajuju was also endorsed for the position of Meru County Women Representative for a second term in next year’s election.

The leaders said that the three would contest on Jubilee Party tickets.

Mr Murungi said that his decision to fight for the seat was driven by the fact that there were no meaningful developments brought about by the current governor, Peter Munya.

On his part, Linturi promised to serve the county in a fair and transparent way, saying he would negotiate and work together with other leaders for the benefit of all people.

The rally was however marred by chanting and heckling by groups of people within the crowd.
