Kiraitu dissolves all Meru County Boards

Meru Governor, Kiraitu Murungi, has dissolved all boards in the county and revoked the appointment of all board members pending the outcome of the county financial and Human resource audit.

Speaking in Meru town, Kiraitu said that the move is part of the clean-up exercise aimed at ensuring the audit process is not interfered with.

“We have dissolved and revoked appointment of all board members in Meru County Investment and Development Board, Meru County Micro Finance Corporation, Meru County Revenue Board and Meru Alcoholic Drinks Board,” said Kiraitu.

Other officials sent on indefinite leave were all CEOs of the corporations and those in the boards to pave way for the Auditor General to run his mandate.

In his defence, the new county boss said that the move to dissolve all health centre management committees and all dispensary management committees would move to ensure quality and affordable health care services to the public.

“To ensure services are not interrupted, we have directed officers in charge of these hospitals, health centers and dispensaries and all other officers appointed in acting capacities to continue running the affairs of their respective institutions and dockets until further notice,” he summed.

This comes barely a week after he suspended the acting County Secretary, all county executives, chief officers, sub-County administrators, town administrators and ward administrators to pave way for an audit.

The newly-sworn in county boss said the move will enable the Auditor General to carry out the business without interference, adding that the department directors will undertake the duties of the suspended officers.

“These measures are being taken to ensure that our county has a public service that is effective and efficient in its operations and service delivery. We shall also take an exercise to audit all the casual workers in the county to remove abuse of a system that has created many ghost workers and unnecessary idle capacity which has excessive strain on our budget,” said Kiraitu.

Similary, the County Public Service Board chairman, Patrick Mwambia, and member Francis Atanasio Kithure are facing charges of abuse of office.
