Kiraitu Murungi endorsed to vie for Meru governor seat

Meru politics took a new twist after five Members of Parliament (MP) from the region endorsed Senator Kiraitu Murungi to vie for the gubernatorial seat come the 2017 General Election.

This came after politicians from the area criticized Governor Peter Munya’s leadership style, terming him a dictator and accusing him of being arrogant.

The five, including Mithika Linturi (Igembe South), Kubai Kiringo (Igembe Central), Rahim Dawood (Imenti North), Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East) and women representative Florence Kajuju all accused the  Chairman Council of governors of blocking unity among the area leaders.

Speaking at Kinyanga Secondary School in Igembe Central during a funds drive, Kajuju applauded Kiraitu as the only savior for the region come the next General Election.

She said, “Peter Munya is a ruler not a leader and no country or county can move ahead by having a ruler but now we are focused on saving Meru County by a having Kiraitu as the leader.”

Backing her sentiments, MPs Mpuru and Kiringo noted that time had come to kick out wrong leaders and vote for a visionary governor who would unite the region, saying that Munya’s arrogance made it hard for him to work with other leaders in the region.

However, on his part, Kiraitu cautioned his political rivals that they would battle it out at the ballot come 2017 but did not confirm or deny whether he will be contesting for the gubernatorial seat.
