Kiraitu Murungi likens Jubilee Party to Tanzania’s CCM

Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has likened Jubilee Party to Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party that has ruled Tanzania for 20 years.

CCM has won all presidential elections at both union level in Tanzania and in Zanzibar at autonomous level under the multi-party system in 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010 and the latest polls in 2015 where John Pombe Magufuli ascended to power after defeating his closet rival Edward Lowassa of Chadema.

In his address at Mikinduri Market in Tigania East Sub County, Kiraitu said the newly formed Jubilee Party would bring together several regional parties to form one unifying party that will dictate the country’s political future for years to come.

“We want to form a party like CCM which will lead the country for years to come. Jubilee Party will bring together different parties from different parts of the country and act as a unifying factor for the existing tribes,” he said.

He added that his Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) popularly known as BUS has joined Jubilee Party ahead of the 2017 elections.

“I do not want to be the driver of the BUS anymore because I have been given the keys to a train. APK has joined Jubilee Party in a bid to unite the country,” said Kiraitu.

Other leaders who spoke at the function also expressed their support for the newly formed party ahead of its launch scheduled for March 2016.

Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi, Mpuri Aburi (Tigania East), Rahim Dawood (Imenti North), Joseph Nteruaki (Igembe North), Gideon Mwiti (Imenti Central) and Meru Women Representative Florence Kajuju all voiced their support for Jubilee Party while calling on their colleagues to join the party.

Jubilee Party is set to be the ticket for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term bid with his deputy William Ruto also expressing interest in running for the 2022 presidential bid under it.
