Kiraitu to sink 100 boreholes yearly in Meru

Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has pledged to drill 100 boreholes every year in Meru County in partial honour of late Father Andrew Mbiko of Gatimbi Parish.

According to Kiraitu, the borehole project will be part of his Ksh. 1 billion annual allocation to be invested in water projects in the county to help curb water shortage.

Speaking at the late Father’s burial ceremony at Mujwa Catholic Church in Imenti central constituency, the Governor eulogised the late bishop as one who was passionate about tree conservation and providing water to the people.

He further commended his county assembly for approving KShs. 700 million to fund the first phase of the water project, which will kick off at Tigania.

Kiraitu also urged Meru residents to emulate the late Bishop and plant more grapes adding that he wants Meru to be known for wine production.

Among leaders present was Imenti North Member of Parliament Rahim Dawood.
