Kirinyaga: 8 family members develop strange illness, sing loudly after stealing food

Residents of Kanjuu village, Gichugu Constituency in Kirinyaga County are in shock after eight members of one family developed a strange illness and started singing loudly in the village.

According to their mother Susan Wangari, her children aged between 12 and 30-years-old developed the strange condition after eating arrow roots believed to have been stolen.

There also claims that one family member had set their turban on fire before the incident.

The eight were discovered by their neighbour Bundi Muthike as they napped outside their home in the rain.

They all appeared dazed and confused. They also  turned violent when their mother asked why they had spent a night outside their home.

Witnesses say the 8 then ganged up against their mother and roughed her up before neighbours intervened.

“They beat up their mother so bad they ended up breaking her leg, she is also admitted at the Kerugoya Hospital,” a witness told Citizen Digital.

The matter was reported at Difathas police station where a senior police officer referred them to the Kerugoya police hospital.

Several videos seen by Citizen Digital shows the 8 being restrained with ropes before they were hauled onto a pick-up truck.

Six of them are currently admitted at the hospital while two are said to have fled shortly after their admission.
