Kirinyaga County Assembly suspends 3 pro-Waiguru MCAs in fresh wrangles

The Kirinyaga County Assembly has suspended 3 MCAs accusing them of indiscipline during the recent impeachment of the county boss.

The report by the Power and Privilege Committee chaired by the Speaker of the County Assembly was adopted by the whole house where two elected MCAs and one nominated MCA were suspended from six committees and four plenary sittings respectively

According to the committee, Kini Ward MCA Johnson Munene Muraguri and Nominated MCA Lucy Njeri were suspended for six months from both plenary and committee sittings.

Karumandi MCA Anthony Kinyua was suspended for 5 months from the plenary sittings and committee sittings while Patrick Chomba of Kabare Ward was suspended for four months.

The three MCAs have accused the assembly of targeting them for being Governor Anne Waiguru supporters saying they will be challenging the suspensions in court.

Towards the end of June, 23 MCA’s voted to impeach Kirinyaga Governor on grounds of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The impeachment was however thrown out by a senate committee which observed that the County Assembly failed to directly link her to the allegations of abuse of office, violation of the law and gross misconduct.

The Kirinyaga Governor termed the committee’s verdict as a “historic victory” insisting that the impeachment process was politically instigated to tarnish her name.

“The conclusion of my impeachment process today marks a remarkable and historic victory not only for me but for the people of Kirinyaga County. It is profoundly clear that this impeachment process did not meet the required threshold and that it was all a choreographed plan of events that was aimed at tarnishing my name,” said Waiguru in a press statement.

“But as I said before, I forgive the forces behind it,” she added.

She claimed her woes were triggered by the BBI and handshake politics, terming repeated questions on her integrity as lies that would not turn into truth.
