Kirinyaga County Assembly woes persist as judge issues tough orders

High Court Judge Weldon Korir has temporarily ordered the Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker not to authorise any withdrawal from the County Revenue Fund.

The order is to be in effect until a matter filed in court challenging the budget estimates and appropriation bill is heard and determined.

Further, the court has issued temporary orders suspending the implementation bit the Kirinyaga County Appropriation Bill.

In June, the County Assembly passed the Kirinyaga County Appropriation Bill.

The Bill is meant to authorise the issue of money out of the County Revenue Fund towards the service of the 2020/2021 financial year as encapsulated in the 2020/2021 budget.

According to Salome Muhia, the petitioner, the Appropriation Bill 2020 was illegally prepared and approved by the county assembly.
