Kirinyaga County officials arrested for allegedly demanding Ksh.300K bribe

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested two officials of the Kirinyaga County Licensing Board for allegedly demanding a bribe.

Samuel Mwangi Mureithi (Kirinyaga Central Director of Liquor Licensing) and Joseph Mureithi Njeru (Kirinyaga Central sub-county Administrator), allegedly demanded and received a bribe of Ksh.300,000 from a businessman in order to issue him with a liquor operation license.

According to Central region EACC boss Charles Rasugu, the officials were arrested on Saturday night at a Karatina hotel after the commission had received a complaint.

They are currently being held at Karatina Police Station pending investigations. They will later be arraigned in court for corruption related offences.
