Kirinyaga: Five students charged with destruction of Ksh.6 million property in dormitory fire

Five students of St. Mary’s Karumandi Boys High School in Kirinyaga County were Thursday charged in court over their alleged involvement in the torching of a dormitory, leading to destruction of property valued at Ksh.6.6 million.

Appearing before Gichugu Senior Resident Magistrate Ken Odhiambo, the five were charged that on February 2 and February 3, 2021 they destroyed 41 double-decker metallic beds valued at Ksh.2.6 million, 82 metallic beds and students personal assorted items valued at Ksh.4 million.

They denied the charges  and were each released on bond of Ksh.200,000 with a surety of similar amount  or Ksh.70,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on February 9, 2021.

Investigation Officer Dennis Sailel told the court that four students will testify against the suspected five students.
