Kirinyaga Jubilee governorship candidate Waiguru calls for peaceful elections

Jubilee governorship candidate Anne Waiguru has called on the residents of Kirinyaga and the country as a whole to remain peaceful in the run up to the August 8 elections.

Speaking in Nyangati, Kiorugari and Kangu areas in Mwea Constituency on Tuesday, Ms Waiguru said politics should not be a basis for disunity further asking the residents to shun politicians who are out to spread hate and divisions.

Ms Waiguru remarked that Kenya had made great strides in the past 10 years and would regress in case of ethnic tension or violence in the August 8 elections.

Similar calls were made by Jubilee leaders President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during their rallies in Kwale County.

President Uhuru accused the Opposition coalition NASA of fueling ethnic tension in the country by asking locals to chase non-locals from their land.

The president said the government will not allow the 2007 post-election violence to recur urging Kenyans not to fall prey to politics of ethnicity and dissension.

DP Ruto, in his speech, said that calls by NASA for the implementation of the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report will only reawaken memories of past atrocities and cause tribal clashes.

Ruto said the government had made frantic efforts in the four years they have been in power to reconcile warring communities by issuing title deeds in places affected by land injustices and resetting the families that were displaced during the 2007 post-election violence.

Meanwhile, Ms Waiguru has told off her rivals for engaging in politics of name-calling and insults in their campaigns.

She said that her campaigns will be devoid of abuses adding that she will focus on her agenda for the people of Kirinyaga.
