Kirinyaga: Man kills himself in hospital after chopping off his hand at home

A 40-year-old man committed suicide on Thursday in a hospital ward where he had been admitted after chopping off his hand.

Confirming the bizarre incident, Kirinyaga Central OCPD Doreen Oduor said the deceased, Solomon Murage Kaburi, had tried to kill himself at home by chopping off his left hand and after he was rushed to Kerugoya Referral Hospital, he hanged himself.

According to the OCPD, the man had also attempted to detach the hand after doctors had reattached it.

A medical officer at the hospital disclosed that the deceased, who was responding well to treatment, hanged himself in the toilet using a medical intravenous giving set.

It could not be immediately established why the deceased attempted suicide, however, his elder sister disclosed that he appeared disturbed before chopping off his hand.

His body was moved to the Kerugoya Referral Hospital mortuary.
