Kirinyaga: Man who killed, buried girlfriend in shallow grave arrested

Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a 34-year-old man who allegedly killed his girlfriend and buried her in a shallow grave in his compound at Kiandieri village.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kirinyaga Central Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Ndege said the suspect, Simon Murimi Wanjohi, was arrested on Sunday at Baricho in Ndia Constituency at around 3am.

Mr. Ndege previously said the suspect was found by his father digging a hole on Tuesday night and, upon being asked what it was meant for, said it was a garbage pit.

However, when the father visited the son’s home on Wednesday, he found the pit buried and alerted the area chief and neighbours who decided to uncover the hole.

A few minutes into uncovering the pit, they came across the feet of a woman and discovered that the suspect had buried a body.

The deceased’s mother Beatrice Kabari said she went missing’ on Monday.

The body was exhumed on Friday and taken to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary waiting postmortem.
