Kirinyaga Prison break: Four suspects escape  cell using a hacksaw

Police in Kirinyaga County are pursuing four robbery with violence suspects who escaped from the Sagana police station at 3a.m on Friday.

According to new Mwea-west sub-county police commander Abdillahi Adan the four suspects were to appear before the Baricho Law Court later that day.

In a daring incident however, the four escaped from the cells after cutting through the metal grills with a hacksaw.

The four suspects; Willis Githuku, Martin Ndung’u, Charles Mwangi and Julius Murigi had been under investigation prior to the daring cell-break.

Detectives handling the case had asked the Baricho Caw Court to hold the suspects for 14 days to allow sleuths gather more evidence for their prosecution.

The gang had been arrested a following a slew of M-pesa shop robbery cases in Muranga ,Sagana and Kagio.

They are also suspected to have attacked a traffic police officer with a shovel, injuring his forehead and fracturing his jaw along the Sagana -Murang’a road in January.

Mwea MP Kabinga Wachira who is a member of security committee in parliament has said he will petition the committee to visit the station next week saying: ‘I cannot believe this,how comes suspects had a hacksaw in the police station cell ‘
