Kirinyaga: Woman allegedly raped, killed and body hung on electric pole by lover

Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating an incident where the body of a 22-year-old woman was found hanging from an electric pole at Rukanga village in Mwea Constituency on Thursday.

Confirming the incident, Mwea West OCPD Joseph Matiku said the deceased, identified as Damaris Njeri, was raped then killed before her body was hung on the pole.

Mr. Matiku added that, according to preliminary investigations, the deceased was likely raped and killed at a different place from where her body was found.

The deceased’s father Muriuki Kagunda expressed shock saying he was called by police officers from Sagana Police Station informing him that his daughter had been murdered.

Sources told Citizen Digital that the deceased’s lover, who is suspected of committing the crime, called her father last week alleging that she (Njeri) was cheating on him.

Mr. Matiku further stated that the said man will be taken in for questioning and prosecuted if found guilty.
