Kirinyaga woman sets husband on fire in jealous rage

A middle-aged man from Redsoil village in Mwea, Kirinyaga County is recuperating at the Kimbimbi sub-County Hospital after his wife set him on fire using a kerosene stove following a domestic quarrel.

The victim, 28-year-old Steven Murimi, said he had spent the weekend in an entertainment joint during the weekend with another woman, a matter that made his wife angry.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Dr Joseph Muriithi of Kimbimbi hospital said that the patient was responding well and is not in danger, adding that he had 25 percent burns on his body.

Nyangati ward Chief Immaculate Wanjiru told Citizen Digital that authorities are investigating the whereabouts of the woman, and advised couples against domestic violence, warning that it could result in death or serious injuries.

The incident comes hot in the heels of a similar incident that took place in Murang’a where a woman burnt her husband to death over a domestic dispute.

The woman, Mary Kabura, reportedly splashed kerosene on his husband, Samuel Kimani, while he was asleep, setting him ablaze before locking him and their children in the bedroom.

Neighbours were alerted by the screams emanating from the house prompting them to break in and save the two children (aged 2 and 9) who were found unharmed. They were however too late to save the husband.

Prior to the incident, the couple had been involved in a bitter confrontation at around 3am over unclear issues.

Police arrived at the scene an hour after the incident and, together with the residents, launched a manhunt for the suspect.

The suspect was later found lying unconscious at around 6am after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance.

She was taken to Murang’a General Hospital where she is recuperating.

The deceased was taken to Murang’a County Mortuary.
