Kisii: 7-year-old boy found dead inside borehole

Police in Kisii have launched a probe into the mysterious death of a seven-year-old boy whose body was found in a borehole.

The body of the Class One pupil at Daraja Mbili Primary School was retrieved from a borehole near rental houses where he was staying with his aunt at Kianyabinge village on Monday night.

Confirming the incident, Nyatieko Location Chief Lawrence Omari said Kisii County Government Disaster Management officials retrieved the body from the borehole and took it to the Kisii County Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Former area Chief James Mokaya, who is the landlord of the premises where the body was found, said the borehole was always under lock and key. However, one of his tenants discovered it open on Monday afternoon but ignored it.

Geoffrey Ondieki, who discovered the body on Monday night, said he had gone to draw water from the borehole for his domestic use when he found the body inside.

Mr. Ondieki said he found the container and rope used to draw water inside the borehole and when he tried to retrieve them he came across the body.

According to Pascalia Moraa, aunt to the deceased, she had been living with the boy since he was one year old as his parents were not in good terms.

She added that she was surprised at the turn of events since he was earlier in the day very jovial and went about his daily activities normally.
