Kisii County Assembly Speaker, MCAs sued over discrimination

15 nominated Members of the Kisii County Assembly have sued the House, the Attorney General and the Speaker over what they term as discrimination and violation of the Constitution.

In a suit filed at Kisumu High Court, the MCAs accuse the respondents of amendments in the Kisii County Assembly standing orders which they claim limit their voting rights.

They further termed it as unconstitutional and unlawful.

The MCAs have also accused the respondents of failing to comply with the Commission of Revenue Allocation circular that directed they be allocated offices and three non-partisan staff.

The MCAs who appeared before Justice F.A. Ochieng named the Attorney General as an interested party in the case.

The County Assembly Service Board, the House and the Speaker are named as first, second and third respondents respectively.

The suit is set for an inter-party hearing on January 23, 2019.
