Police in Kisii County on Monday arrested a couple suspected to have killed their four-year-old son and dumped his body in a pit latrine.

Confirming the incident, Area Chief Edward Moenda said neighbours raised an alarm after realising the 38-year-old man and his wife aged 30 were no longer living with their son at their home in Mwanyakabara, Bonchrari Constituency.

When they tried to inquire about the boy’s whereabouts the couple told them that their son was with his grandmother in a far-flung village.

According to the chief, police officers with help from the locals, spotted a nearby isolated latrine where they discovered the decomposing body of the 4-year-old in a cement bag.

It is suspected that the boy was strangled before he was dumped in the pit latrine. His body was exhumed and taken to Kisii Level Five Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

The couple was detained at Gesonso Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.
