Kisii legislators meet Kenyatta at State House ahead of regional tour

President Uhuru Kenyatta is at this hour holed up in a meeting with MCAs from Kisii and Nyamira Counties at State House here in Nairobi.

The meeting comes ahead of Uhuru’s four-day extensive tour of the region, slated for Tuesday next week , a move seen as a bid to consolidate votes from the region which backed the opposition Cord in 2013.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Power Breakfast Show, Kitutu Chache Member of Parliament Richard Onyonka said that the region has 1.2m votes but are currently targeting 1.5m votes ahead of the 2017 polls.

He added that Kisii leaders are planning to use these numbers to bargain for the best deals for the community just like the Western leaders have done.

Onyonka however insisted that the community was not allied to Cord or Jubilee and were open to discussions.

Last week, Kisii Senator Chris Obure and Deputy Governor Joash Maangi led eight MPs to State House, where they met the President to discuss development projects.
