Kisii MCA Denies Insulting President Kenyatta

Samuel Apoko allegedly uttered contemptuous words that demeans the person of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He is accused of saying that “those close to President Uhuru Kenyatta should advice him to stop smoking bhang”.

Apoko who represenmts Riogoro Ward termed the accusations levelled against him as mere speculations and that he respects leadership.

It is alleged that the accused uttered the words on the 28th August last year at Kerera village in Kisii County

The leader allegedly uttered the words during a funeral

Apoko who was remorseful said that he never spoke the words and instead he remembers saying that the country needs healing and reconciliation.

He added that the only person who will bring Kenyans together is God and he respects leaders

Apoko said he even quoted verses in the bible to support his arguments

The leader dismised the accusations against him saying they were politically instigated

According to section 132 of the penal code, it is unlawful to undermine the authority of a public officer.

The section provides that any person without lawful excuse utters, prints or publishes any words or does anything calculated to bring into contempt or to excite defiance of or disobedience to the lawful authority of a public officer is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.

Apoko denied the charges before Kisii Principal Magistrate Kibet Sambu and was released on bond.
