Kisii State Lodge now a protected area after BBI report received at the venue

Kisii State Lodge has been gazetted as a protected area on the same day that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report was received at the premises.

A Gazette notice released on Wednesday indicates that no person shall be in the specified areas without permission of the prescribed authority or the Cabinet of Interior and Coordination of National Government.

“For the purposes of this Order, the prescribed authority shall be the Inspector General of the National Police Service,” the notice reads.

Dr. Matiang’i made the order in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 (1) of the Protected Areas Act.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga received the much anticipated BBI report at the Kisii State Lodge on Wednesday morning.

The Head of State announced that the document will be launched at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi on Monday, October 26, 2020.

He urged Kenyans to read the report before taking positions and said politicians should show leadership and not create divisions over the document.

“This document does not belong to me and Raila. It doesn’t! It belongs to you. It is not about this individual’s presidency and that individual’s prime ministership. It is about all of us. What we are looking for is a document about posterity,” he said.

Mr. Odinga shared similar sentiments saying some people’ had been speculating about the contents of the BBI report and even opposing it yet they had not read it.

He also noted that BBI process began in Kisii which is why he and President Kenyatta decided to have the task force present their findings at the Kisii State Lodge.

“We decided that we should take steps towards solving these problems not just for ourselves but with interests of this generation and the next,” Mr. Odinga added.
