Kisii University College branch to remain open

Kisii University College, Eldama Ravine Town Branch will remain open following a successful petition by over 600 students and the Embu council of elders against its closure.

The students and council of elders had opposed a decision by the Commission of University Education (CUE) to close the institution over what it termed as failure to meet educational standards.

Led by Koibatek Deputy County Commissioner Samson Macharia, Kisii University Student President Jackson Yegon and Embu Council of Elders Chairman Joseph Leboo, the locals took part in a peaceful demonstration in Eldama Ravine Town on Monday condemning the move to close the campus.

Mr Macharia reiterated that the cost of education would be higher if students are forced to travel over 100 kilometres to Kabarnet, adding that the number of students would also drop drastically.

Embu Council of Elders Chairman Joseph Leboo accused CUE of foul play as the inspection was done six months ago, adding that the institution has complied with at least 80 per cent of the conditions that were given.
