Kisumu: Armed thugs storm church, steal Ksh.1.6M meant for elderly persons

Armed thugs on Monday morning raided a church in Kiboswa area, Kisumu County, and made away with Ksh.1.6 million meant for elderly persons.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu West sub-county police boss Eddy Kangi said the gangsters shot in the air to disperse the elderly people who were in line at the Dago PAG Church before making away with the cash.

Administration Police officers manning a nearby booster responded to the scene but the thugs fled using motorbikes.

Kisumu County Director of Social Services Dennis Mudhune confirmed that there are instances when money is given in cash to be distributed to the beneficiaries.

Three offices from the Department of Social Services are hence presently being held to assist in investigations over the heist.

According to police, the officers should have alerted them for protection of the large sum of cash as is protocol but they did not.

Manhunt for the actual thugs is however still on.
