Kisumu County officer busted taking KSh.50K bribe from bar owner

A Kisumu county officer has been arrested after he was busted taking a bribe from a bar owner.

According to an officer from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC), the county officer had been attached to the liquor licensing board in Muhoroni.

According to Western Kenya EACC regional manager Ignatius Wekesa, the officer demanded a Ksh. 50,000 bribe to drop charges of operating a bar without a permit.

The trader then lured the officer to Kisumu where she persuaded the him to reduce the initial amount to Ksh. 15,000.

She then proceeded to call the anti-corruption officers who laid a trap for the man and caught him receiving the money.

The EACC regional boss warned both national and county government officers to not engage in corruption as they will be arrested and charged.

He noted that the government is losing revenue from such deals and vowed that no officer caught taking bribes will go scot free.

The suspect is to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
