Kisumu county suspends nine officers over graft

Kisumu county government has suspended nine of its key officers over the alleged misappropriation of 45 million shillings that was meant for development.

The County Secretary Humphrey Nakitare says the officials were named in an inquiry report after a committee set up to probe the national government on Municipal Employees of Kisumu Sacco (MEK).

According to Nakitare, the county government will not condone corruption and any officer engaging in graft will be sacked if not arrested.

Municipal Employees of Kisumu Sacco is owned by civil servants who are mostly workers from the defunct municipal council.

The suspended officers have 21 days to show course why disciplinary action should not be taken against them or pay in full the amount owed to the Sacco.
