Kisumu County to spend Ksh.8M to buy iPads for MCAs

The Kisumu County Assembly is set to spend Ksh.8 million to purchase iPads for the Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

Speaking to the press in Kisumu, County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo on Tuesday defended the plans saying the gadgets are crucial in the smooth running of affairs of the House.

“In order to transact business of the House, we need to get our information real time, the comments on the bill early enough and real time so that we save on time and we are able to share knowledge and information widely amongst other members,” said Oloo.

“This can only be achieved when each member is facilitated and enabled through modern communication systems, and we have opted for the cheapest way which is the iPad.”

The Speaker further added that there were additional funds in a supplementary budget recently passed to modernize the Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the Assembly.

He also announced plans to dispose the iPads given out to the former MCAs once they are returned.

“We are asking them to return them to us with the option of disposing them under the Public Procurement and Disposal Act,” he stated.

“The budget for provision for digitization process does not exceed Ksh.8 million.”
