Kisumu gets Ksh.800M from WB for modernisation

Kisumu County has received Ksh.800million from World Bank for modernisation of the lakeside city.

Deputy Governor Mathews Owili said the funds have been channeled to the Kenya Urban Support Programme.

According to him, the funds will help in upgrading the fire station for faster response to accidents in the city.

“Part of the funds will go towards tarmacking roads and unblocking drainages within the estates,” he added.

Speaking to the press in Manyatta, the Deputy Governor noted that the boost from the World Bank will greatly improve infrastructure in Kisumu.

He also announced that the Kisumu Urban Projects (KUP) that had stalled is now complete.

Mr. Owili said the projects were abandoned during the tenure of former Governor Jack Ranguma.

“School projects have also been completed and are ready for occupation by pupils next year,” he added.
