Kisumu Girls High School closed indefinitely following student unrest

Kisumu Girls High School has been closed indefinitely following student unrest over alleged mismanagement at the institution.

The students went on rampage Sunday night protesting an array of issues ranging from poor diet, lack of freedom and a decision by the school management to scrap off entertainment sessions.

They reportedly destroyed window panes at the administration block as well as those of the school headmistress’ house.

Attempts by the administration to have the girls return to their dormitories were futile as the students refused to be addressed prompting police to be called in.

Police officers who were deployed to the school rounded up the students at the institution’s school playing field awaiting a solution from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) officers who were on scene.

The students were eventually sent home on Monday morning.
