Kisumu MCA arrested over disruption of IEBC training session

Kondele ward MCA Joachim Omieno was Saturday, October 21 arrested over the violent disruption of a training of electoral commission officials in Kisumu last week.

Reports indicate that Omieno was arrested at his Kisumu home by flying squad officers, who drove him to Koru Police Station before transferring him to Kericho Police Station where he is being held.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu County Assembly Majority Leader Kenneth Onyango told Citizen Digital that a group of local leaders would travel to Kericho to check on the MCA.

Kisumu Senator Fred Outa, former Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga and a number of MCAs are still in hiding for fear of being arrested over the same incident.

Following Omieno’s arrest, angry youth barricaded the Kisumu-Kakamega road at night demanding his immediate release.

Nyanza Regional Coordinator Wilson Njega had warned that all leaders suspected to have taken part in disruption of the training would be arrested and charged.
