Kisumu MCAs cut short long recess to debate BBI bill

Members of the county assembly (MCAs) in Kisumu have cut short their long recess to debate the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional amendment bill.

The MCAs have been on recess since last year and were supposed to resume plenary sittings on February 10.

However, in a gazette notice, Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro directed that the MCAs return for a special session on Tuesday next week.

The BBI bill will be tabled during the afternoon session pursuant to Article 257 (5) of the Constitution of Kenya.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) sent out the draft bill to all the 47 county assemblies for consideration within a period of three months.
