A senior police officer from Kombewa Police Station in Kisumu has been arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe of Ksh.20,000 to withdraw a defilement case.

Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives arrested the station OCS Kennedy Saina at his office on Tuesday.

EACC Western Region Coordinator Ben Murei told Radio Ramogi that the officer allegedly demanded a bribe from the suspect’s brother.

Anti-corruption officers received the complaint on Monday and laid a trap that led to the arrest of the officer.

The OCS is to be charged with soliciting a bribe contrary to Section 6 sub-section 1(a)  and section 18 (1) sub-section 2 of the Bribery Act.

The accused was taken to Kisumu Central Police Station where he was held before being released on a police cash bail.

“Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has been notified of the arrest and the suspect will be charged on September 7, 2018,” the EACC officer added.
