Protests in Kisumu as supporters demand Miguna release

Rowdy youths on Wednesday took to the streets in Kisumu to protest the detention of Miguna Miguna at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

They barricaded Kondele roundabout along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway demanding that the government release the fiery lawyer.

The self proclaimed general of the National Resistance Movement has been in police custody at the airport since Monday when he arrived from Canada.

There are unconfirmed reports that he is being held in a small room without any food or water.

Journalists have still been denied access to him and so have his Kenyan counsel who went back to court on Wednesday after authorities ignored a court order for his release.

The High Court has since issued another directive for Miguna to appear at 2.30pm.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Boinnet and acting Director of Immigration Joseph Munywoki have also been summoned by the court over the matter.
