Kisumu robbery: Suspect shot dead by police, two escape

Police in Kisumu on Sunday afternoon gunned down a suspected robber and recovered a pistol at Riat area in Kisumu East Sub-county.

Two others managed to escape during the operation near Ukweli Pastoral centre.

Kisumu County AP Commandant Joseph Kigen confirmed the incident saying police ambushed the alleged thugs in a bush hideout where they were drinking alcohol.

Mr. Kigen said the suspects had in the morning waylaid a lorry supplying gas cylinders along the Kisumu-Kakemega road and made away with Ksh.40,000.

He further said the suspects are part of a gang operating on a motorcycle terrorizing locals.

The commandant said police are now on a lookout for more criminals who are on the run as cases of insecurity in Kisumu continue to rise.
