Kisumu schools to undergo a facelift

The County Government of Kisumu is rolling out a 450 million shillings schools facelift program aimed at promoting quality of education in the county and to curb cases of school drop outs with the first phase targeting five primary schools.

Speaking during the tour of some of the primary schools to kick-start the programme, Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma called on parents to deter school going children from engaging in commercial activities.

“The greatest problem we are facing is the high number of school dropouts. Parents should not allow children to get involved in any commercial activities. Education is a birth right to all children,” said Ranguma.

Some of the schools to benefit include Nyabondo Primary School and Angira Primary School that will receive 80 million shillings.

Ranguma weighed on the health workers strike saying that doctors should not hold the governors accountable because it is the failure of the national government to release funds on time.

“I believe the notice medics have given us is erroneous because it is not based on what we have not done as a county, what is outstanding is not our responsibility, they were concerned about the delay of salary which is dependent on when we have received money from the national government,” said the Governor.

Ranguma said that health workers from across the country have received their pay and thus have no reason to call for industrial action.

The governor pledged to use his position as the Council of Governors health committee chair to ensure that the concerns by the health workers are ironed out.
