Kitui school closed after satan attacks pupils

A school in Kitui County has been closed down indefinitely after pupils were allegedly attacked by evil spirits.

Irate parents of Ithimani Primary School on Tuesday marched into the institution and took their
children home following the frequent concerns by pupils about being attacked by evil spirits.

The supposed spirits are said to have troubled the students for the last two months disrupting learning in the school.

The parents lamented that their children were not safe while at the learning institution and demanded the transfer of one female teacher whom they associated devil-worshipping.

“We want the teacher to leave with her ‘things’ from this school so that the pupils can resume schooling ahead of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE that is set to begin on Monday next week,” said one of the parents Ms Catherine Syombua.

Syombua also noted that the pupils were terrified whenever they saw their colleagues suffer from time to time with bizarre seizures which she said was affecting their concentration in class.

The mixed day and boarding primary school, within Itoleka location in Katulani Sub-county, has a population of over 600 pupils, out of whom 140 are borders.

Reports indicate that both the parents and school’s administration have on several
occasions in the past called in pastors to pray for the students and exorcise the spirits, after which things seemed to cool down until a few days ago when the nightmare struck again.

Another parent identified as Mr Julius Mumo said: “The spirits began to torment the students again some days ago prompting the parents and school management to hold a meeting on Monday to deliberate on a permanent solution to the satanic problem.”

They gave an ultimatum to whoever is responsible to withdraw the suspected demons from the facility and put an end to the confusion.

Mumo said they got a breakthrough on Tuesday when one ‘possessed’ pupil led her mother to the staffroom and pointed to the accused teacher saying; “This is the person who has been tormenting me.”

The child’s parent had been summoned to the school after her daughter suffered what villagers called “demons attack”.

Following the development, which brought about a commotion in the school and drew a crowd from the neighbouring village, word reached the parents who rushed to the school baying for the said teacher’s blood.

However, the teacher was nowhere to be found as she had fled the school.

Witnesses said the ‘possessed’ pupils would sprawl on the ground while screaming and frothing whenever they went into the illusory state.

The parents claimed that the boarding pupils reported to have heard voices and sounds of invisible beings walking across the dormitory at night while others alleged that the strange spirits tried to suffocate them in their sleep.
