KNEC officials, teachers to blame for exam cheating – Magoha

Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chairman Prof George Magoha has blamed teachers, parents and a section of KNEC officials for exams irregularities in the past.

Speaking on Wednesday at Kisumu Boys High school while monitoring the last day of the national exam, the chairman said past exams cheating was facilitated by various education stakeholders.

Prof Magoha said the government has put stringent measures to curb the vice and even reduced exam marking centres to 25 to ensure credibility during the marking process.

He further assured candidates that the marking exercise will free and fair, adding that the government has sealed all loopholes that could lead to marking irregularities.

Speaking last week in Bungoma County, Education CS Dr Fred Matiang’i assured that the commitment that has been seen during the examination would be applied during marking so that students get credible results.

“I have confidence in the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and I assure you that mechanisms have been put in place to ensure the results are credible,” he said

He assured that the effort by exam administrators to wake up at 5am, and that of the markers will not be in vain, adding that the exam would not be tampered with.

The CS noted that the new system of administering exams was successful, saying that the process has been credible.

He commended principals and security officers for their commitment during the examination process.
