Human rights agency demands air ticket for Miguna

The Kenya National Human Rights Commission has demanded that the government buy an air ticket for fiery lawyer Miguna Miguna to return from Canada.

A letter from the human rights agency also says that the State should return his Kenyan passport as was ordered by the court.

KNHRC chairperson Kagwiria Mbogori wrote to the Immigration PS Gordon Kihalangwa and Immigration Director on May 5.

“Miguna has informed the commission that he will return to Kenya on May 16. To enable the Commission comply with the court directive, the commission urges your office to comply with the court orders,” the letter reads in part.

Mr. Mbogori also wants the Government to issue access cards to KNHRC commissioners so that they can meet and monitor Miguna’s return at the airport.

The State however maintains that Miguna is not a Kenyan having revoked his citizenship.

The fiery lawyer, who makes his pronouncements via social media, said:

“I am returning to Kenya on May 16, 2018. I am a Kenyan citizen by birth. The High Court has ordered Fred Matiangi, Gordon Kihalangwa, Joseph Boinnet and Kinoti 13 times to issue me with a valid Kenyan passport and facilitate my return to Kenya as a Kenyan unconditionally.”

His attempted entry into the country two months ago was marred with controversy after he was detained at the Nairobi airport for several days.

He would later be deported to Dubai via an Emirates plane and emerge online claiming that he was drugged.

A series of court cases against the three top government officials bore no fruit leaving him with no other alternative but to head back to Canada where he has remained since then.
